Building Belonging: Inclusion at TeamKids

At TeamKids, inclusion isn’t just a buzzword; it’s a guiding principle. Every child, regardless of their background, ability, or identity, should feel that they belong.

With Bec, our Child Wellbeing and Inclusion Manager, inclusion at TeamKids means every child feels welcome, safe, and free to be themselves. The diversity of all children is recognised and celebrated – whether that’s neurodiversity, culture, disability, gender identity, or beyond. TeamKids programs are designed with flexibility and care, so no child feels like they’re on the outside looking in.

Supporting Every Child as an Individual

The journey begins at enrolment where families are encouraged to share insights about their child/ren through ‘Child Profile’ forms. These are followed up with conversations to learn more about each child’s needs and strengths. Then, TeamKids Educators observe the way the child/ren engage, and support is adapted accordingly.

Where additional help is needed, the Inclusion Support Team or external professionals may become involved, ensuring strategies are tailored to work in a group care setting. This personalised approach means every child has the chance to thrive in their own way.

The Central Role of Educators

At TeamKids, we invest heavily in training that builds cultural competence, trauma-informed practices, and positive behaviour guidance. The training is backed up with ongoing support – on-the-ground coaching, collaborative planning, and encouragement to reflect and adapt.

With the right support, Educators can create spaces where children feel seen, respected, and celebrated. As Bec puts it, it’s about fostering a mindset of curiosity and compassion.

Children as Co-Designers

With inclusion, we empower children to shape their own experiences too. There are a several ways for children to share their voices, including, reflection journals, suggestion boxes, and group meetings. This co-design approach builds a sense of ownership, leading to stronger engagement and deeper connection to the program.

A Partnership with Schools

At TeamKids, inclusion isn’t an add-on; it’s woven into the fabric of everything we do for school leaders. The approach is responsive, collaborative, and aligned with the needs of each school community.

There is no one-size-fits-all program. Instead, we work in partnership with schools to build something meaningful together.

If you’d like to explore how TeamKids can support inclusion at your school – or share feedback about what your children or families need – we’d love to continue the conversation.
